Gulp. Thirteen. I know it's just a number, but it seems like a huge milestone.
We find ourselves totally unprepared to take a boy from childhood to manhood. Just when we think we've read enough, prayed enough, talked enough...we realize we haven't. There are some things only experience can teach you. Guess children are one of God's many ways of keeping us humble and dependent on Him.
Not that Blane is a troublesome child. No, it's just that we are always in uncharted territory with him, since he is our oldest.
God gives wisdom at every step. And He provides sojourners who have walked ahead of us on the narrow road that have given us pointers along the way. By God's grace, we'll get there!
Blane looked at these pictures after I edited them and couldn't believe they were actually him. He said, "I look so much older than I think I look! I mean, I look full grown! Wow."
Yes, he is older. And taller than me. And wears shoes a size and a half larger than Tony's. I think he'll be taking after Big Daddy! Look out tall, here Blane comes!
His stature has changed, but a lot remains the same. He is still an avid Lego enthusiast and bibliophile. When he's not reading or building Legos, he is doing vocabulary games and drills...for fun. He just told me that his math textbook doesn't have "enough practice problems." So, he ordered another math textbook that has lots more problems so that he can "hone his math skills."
Can we say this boy is like his addicted-to-learning Daddy???
We love you, Blane! Happy 13th!
