Boy becoming man...

We have drifted somehow into uncharted territory...we now have a child who has entered his double digit years.

Blane is 10! How time flies! So, I grabbed my camera to take our annual birthday portraits. I could tell during our photo shoot that he wanted to "look cool" and not give me his classic little boy grin in all the pictures. He is leaving the little boy behind...he has outgrown his little boy "shell" and is moving into new skin. I am thrilled and sad and terrified all at once! Thrilled that he is thriving...sad that the years are passing so quickly...and unsure how to parent a pre-teen boy. God's Word is so full of wisdom, and we are clinging to it ever more as we parent this young man.

We are definitely in the "tweener" stage. There are still many glimpses of our little boy, but there are even more glimpses of a maturing young man. Sometimes these two "faces" appear minutes apart from one another. One minute, he can be a silly boy and the next a mature young man. He is stuck between two worlds, not fully belonging to either.

Here is a glimpse of the little boy, who still loves to run and jump off of things...

Blane also LOVES reading...

He got a skateboard for Christmas...

This is his favorite jacket. Awesome message! He wears it whenever he can. He calls it his "Christian jacket." We are very thankful that he is proud to bear the cross and share its message with others. May he continue to have this same fervor for his Lord all his days!

What an amazing young man Blane is becoming!
He is fun, diligent, incredibly responsible and very kind to his brother and sister. He has a tender heart to the Lord and those who are hurting. He has a great imagination and amazing gifts. We are so thankful that the Lord has entrusted him to our care these 10 years and look forward to watching him grow both in wisdom and stature in the years ahead.

Happy Birthday, Blane!

The Arrival of Abigail...

Jessica has now joined the ranks of those who have given birth...and she was a trooper, too! After over an hour of pushing this afternoon, Jessica delivered sweet Abigail Kaylea at 5:19pm.

Here are some pics I snapped this evening when she was just 2 hours old!

We love you so very much, Abigail! We've been waiting ever so long to see you and hold you and sing to you...Welcome to our Father's World!

Ordinary Acts

"The ordinary acts we practice every day at home are of more importance to the soul than their simplicity might suggest."

Thomas Moore, Irish poet (1779 - 1852)

A Hearing Aid for the Soul...

Hours can be loud, deafening. A hearing aid to the soul, Scripture attunes one to The Voice that never stops speaking. Through the circumstances of each day, He continually speaks. But can we hear Him? To step into the day without listening to His Word is to hear only life’s muffled sounds, garble. -Ann Voskamp
